In 1710, the Duke of Saxony and King of Poland, Augustus the Strong, announced to the world the creation of the first hard porcelain factory in Europe: the secret of the manufacture of this mysterious material originating in China was broken. Three men of genius made the glory of the Meissen factory: the first, Bottger, an alchemist by training, discovered the "arcane", the recipe. After his death in 1720, the enameler Höroldt created the palette necessary for delicate chinoiserie paintings.

As for the sculptor Kaendler, he was the greatest baroque spirit who invented the forms of this new material. The production was immense... in proportion to the success achieved thanks to the infinite inventiveness of these artists.

This book, which brings together the various aspects of this manufacture, is a guide to better understand Saxon porcelain.
