				WRITTEN IN FRENCH
In Renaissance France, the equestrian portrait came in all forms, from painting to enamel, sculpture and print. The chivalric imagery and ancient references then combined to exalt power and nobility, at the very moment when the shock of great conflicts forced a review of the place of the rider and the practice of horse riding. Aspirations to appear as the "handsome man on horseback" crystallized above all around the dream, sometimes become reality, of the monumental equestrian statue.
