This catalogue was published to coincide with the exhibition "L'Eau-forte, outil du peintre - De Parmesan à Tiepolo" at the Musée des beaux-arts Caen from 22 March to 20 July 2025.
From the 16th century onwards, etching became a formidable means of dissemination for painters, particularly Italian ones. Their exploration of this reproduction technique led to the development of etching, of which Parmigianino was one of the first great exponents, before the process took on a central role in the European artistic landscape of the 17th century.
