The Austrian architect Hans Hollein (1934-2014) is one of the great names on the global stage. Awarded the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 1985, his work spans a vast range of projects, from his early Viennese and New York boutiques in the 1960s to the Vulcania theme park, as well as high-rise buildings (Haas Haus and Media Tower in Vienna) and museums (Mönchengladbach, Frankfurt), reflecting his eclectic vision and iconoclastic ambitions.

Both an architect, urban planner, designer, and theorist, Hollein was deeply connected to the art world, particularly with Joseph Beuys. His collages were acquired early on by MoMA in New York, and he also created major installations, such as at the Abteiberg Museum in Mönchengladbach (1970) and the Venice Biennale (1972). He curated groundbreaking exhibitions, including Austriennale (1968) and MAN transFORMS (1976), which remain influential to this day.
