"There - back here I went back to work - the brush almost falling from my hands and - knowing well what I wanted I have since painted three large canvases. These are immense expanses of wheat under troubled skies and I did not hesitate to try to express sadness, extreme solitude. You will see this I hope shortly - because I hope to bring them to you in Paris as soon as possible since I would almost believe that these paintings will tell you what I cannot say in words, what I see that is healthy and strengthening in the countryside. »
