The Palace of Versailles is a must when we talk about the History of France in the 17th and 18th centuries, and it is also a must-see in comic strips. Indeed, it can be found in more than a hundred series or single albums, educational comic strips, or historical or even fantastic fictions, exploiting the wealth of theatres of action that the estate offers. From the great century to contemporary times, through alternative versions of history, the Palace of Versailles feeds the imagination of authors.
This exhibition catalogue explores the relationship between Versailles and the Ninth Art through a series of essays, commentaries on plates dealing with the techniques of production, but also through interviews with some of the authors and publishers who wrote this story. Intended as a reference document on the subject, it is aimed at both neophytes and enthusiasts of art, history or comic strips.
