When [Giacometti] makes those sculptures like people crossing the street, going from one house to another, you can't help saying that these are people who are walking in the street and that you're at a certain distance from them. Sculpture with Giacometti is the residual part, what remains when the mind has forgotten all the details. [...]. It's a really new spirit in sculpture.
