FRENCH LANGUAGE

Signed on 4 November 1950 and entered into force on 3 September 1953, the European Convention on Human Rights, inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, is today the most advanced model for the effective guarantee of human rights, through judicial control of respect for their rights. The aim was to establish public order in the democracies of Europe. The originality of the system lay in its evolutionary and flexible nature, which has been progressively strengthened through successive reforms. The Convention has had an undeniable knock-on effect on all European countries in terms of better defence of human rights.
