Gunter's Quadrant - Hemisferium
CB590403
Reproduction based on two Gunter quadrants made in the mid-nineteenth century
This Gunter quadrant was used to determine the time, azimuth of the sun and to measure the altitude of an object in degrees.
On the front, the instrument has a local height quadrant with a pinhole system to determine the height of the sun.
On the back, it is nocturnal, like those used by former sailors to place the brightest circumpolar stars and help their nocturnal observations.
