With its extraordinary longevity of more than four decades, its international spread, surrealism holds a singular place in the history of modern art. From the publication of Manifest of Surrealism in 1924, up to its final manifestations in the 1960s, the movement was never reduced to an aesthetic or formalism.
The different chapters of the "Surrealism" exhibition attest to the ambition of surrealists to turn life into poetry.
