In 2000, Philippe Meyer donated an exceptional group of works to the Musées de France. The Musée d'Orsay, the initial recipient of this collection, deposited a large part of it with the Musée Granet in Aix-en-Provence, a city that the collector particularly liked.
The names of Balthus, Cézanne, Fautrier, Giacometti, Klee, Matisse, Picasso, Léger, Mondrian, Morandi, Staël, Tal Coat and Van Velde have thus been added to those of the Musée Granet's classical and baroque collections, bringing it into the art of the 20th century.
Philippe Meyer's elegance and humanity were matched only by his discretion, his generosity and his sense of public service. Here he is now at the heart of a museum that he has happily opened to Cézanne and the post-Cézanne avant-gardes, while remaining faithful to the spirit of the place.
