Hand patinated resin reproduction. Mould made from a print of the original work on display at the Musée des Beaux Arts in Dijon.
Although François Rude's nephew and student, Emmanuel Frémiet had a difficult start.
He worked at the medical school on the moulding of anatomical parts, then on zoological studies currently kept at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris.
Famous as an animal sculptor, he received commissions from the State such as the equestrian statue of Joan of Arc erected at Place des Pyramides in Paris, and the groups crowning the pylons of the Alexandre III bridge.
His concern for historical truth and his precision in the rendering of details quickly made him famous. Frémiet never stopped taking care of his drawing class at the Jardin des Plantes where he had replaced Antoine Barye until his death.
Attention! This casting is not provided with the pedestal.
