In the 1940s, after spending ten years in Europe, Roderick Mead returned to the United States and settled in Carlsbad, New Mexico, his wife's home state. Through this print entitled Rocky Arroyo Landscape in New Mexico or Landscape with a Horse Drinking at the River, he shows us the arid natural landscapes in which he lived at that time. Amidst cacti and hills, a horse drinks from the stream that gives the engraving its name, the Rocky Arroyo. This work thus testifies to Mead's admiration for the nature of New Mexico, an inexhaustible source of inspiration in his work, and the special bond he has with this southern state of the United States.
