Georges Gobô by his real name Georges Gobeau, French painter, illustrator, lithographer and engraver was born on June 19, 1876 in San Francisco. His father, of Charente origin, had come to the United States to make a fortune. In 1882, his father died and his family returned to France to settle in Angoulême.

Georges became an apprentice at a lithographer in Angoulême. He is passionate about drawing, lithography, watercolour, and painting. In 1900, he moved to Angers. He quickly became a member of the Society of Friends of the Arts, which invited him to exhibit his first works at its annual exhibition in December 1900. At that time, he took the pseudonym Georges Gobô.

In 1907, he made his first etching on zinc plates. In 1908, he exhibited for the first time in Paris. From now on, Georges Gobô, participates in regional and national exhibitions. In 1911, he moved to Paris. Later, Gobô travelled abroad, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Spain and Morocco. There he paints canvases or sketches of everyday life (Venice Market) and landscapes in search of the feeling that he then reproduces on copper.
