These missions are of the utmost importance for the study of Chinese civilisation, as the archaeologists who led them made a major contribution to the development of sinology in the early 20th century.

The photographic collections gathered here concern: the Édouard Chavannes mission (1907), the Victor Segalen and Augusto Gilbert de Voisins trip (1909), the Henri Maspero mission (1914), the Victor Segalen-Augusto Gilbert de Voisins-Jean Lartigue mission (1914), the Victor Segalen excursions (1917) and the Jean Lartigue mission (1923)

Composed of 2564 photographs, the enclosed CD-ROM is not only a documentary research tool but also an invitation to a fabulous journey to the heart of China.
