From 1921 to 1923, French luxury was on show in Paris at the Salon du goût français: backlit autochromes, like "stained glass windows in a cathedral", promoted French industry, from fashion to cars, from goldsmiths to the decorative arts. This original technical and museographic process proved extremely practical, making it easy to tour the exhibition by boat, as far afield as the United States.
On display for the first time, alongside clothes, accessories, photographs and documents from the Palais Galliera collections, a hundred or so autochromes, backlit and presented by colour range, bring to life the spirit of the Salon du goût français, a century apart.
This book is without equal on the subject of autochromes in fashion photography.
