"These paintings will tell you what I cannot say in words."
May 20, 1890, Vincent van Gogh arrived in Auvers-sur-Oise. He has just left the Saint-Rémy-de-Provence health center and hopes to soothe his ailments in this countryside of the Val d'Oise, with Dr Gachet. Aspiring to capture "the desperately rapid passage of things in modern life," he worked tirelessly and produced 74 paintings and more than 50 drawings in just two months. He experiments with new themes and formats and delivers original work, with a more expressive touch than ever and new color combinations.
On July 27, 1890, he ended his life.
The result of close collaboration between the Van Gogh Museum and the Musée d'Orsay, this work offers a new dating of the works, deciphers this still little-known artistic production and analyzes the psychological suffering which led the painter to abruptly end his art.
Co-published with the Musée d'Orsay.
