"You'd never think you're in the middle of Paris!" Yes, Paris hides treasures, often discreet, unusual places, far from the ideas we have of the City of Light. It is not in the heart of historic Paris that you should look for these preserved places, but rather on the edge. There are certainly villages in the capital. Montmartre is the most famous, cherished by tourists who travel through it on pilgrimage. But apart from this universally known Montmartre, it is in the peripheral arrondissements that you have to look for these other villages, with steep alleys, courtyards, villas and secret cul-de-sacs, drowned in greenery, small houses from another time wisely lined up, pavilions huddled along narrow passages. They are discovered here and there, unexpectedly, by chance, during walks, often in working-class neighborhoods, abandoned, isolated and miraculously escaped the pickaxe and successive urbanization plans. Today, we look at them in a different light. They have become quaint, attractive and sought after. To be discovered.
