"All yours, brother, in art and truth." This formula, written in 1890 by the artist Paul Sérusier (1864-1927) to the painter Maurice Denis (1870-1943), shows the deep attachment that linked the two men. The impromptu coming and going that followed marked the starting point of a friendship that lasted nearly four decades. From then on, they were collaborators in their "philosophical constructions" and "plastic research", brothers in arms in their intellectual and pictorial struggles.
The letters, most of which have never been published, are privileged witnesses to this relationship which, after the death of Paul Sérusier, continued between Marguerite Sérusier and Maurice Denis.
In addition to this collection of 167 cross-references, there are two documents by Sérusier: "Notes on measurements in the plastic arts" and "Notes on the origins of symbolism in the 19th century ".
