In 1949, a few years after the Second World War, a gigantic Peace Congress organised by the World Movement of Peace Supporters (of Communist inspiration) was held in Paris. For the occasion, Picasso designed a poster symbolising the Peace Movement.

Picasso drew the profile of a dove, like the white pigeons he kept in cages in his studio and those in the trees of his childhood in Malaga.
