The Renault R-35 is a popular French light infantry tank (Charlégere model 1935R) from the early days of the Second World War. The R-35 was the successor to the earlier First World War Renault FT-17 tank. The tank's advantages were its modern design and effective armor for the time. The disadvantages were undoubtedly the insufficiently powerful engine and the single-person turret, which forced the vehicle commander to perform tasks reserved for several crew members in other vehicles. The 37 mm cannon of the First World War was no longer particularly effective.
Poland purchased 100 Renault R-35 tanks from France. In July 1939, the first batch of around 50 units arrived. They were deployed in September 1939. Due to defeat, some of the machines were sent to Romania and Hungary. Transport of another 50 units failed to reach Poland.
