This scarab was known in the history of Egyptology as the "wedding scarab" of Tiy.

We note the presence of royal cartouches on the sides, between the legs of the animal, one of the "royal wife Tiy" following the cartouche of Amenhotep III. The flat under the belly of the animal is decorated with hieroglyphic inscriptions.

The axial hole suggests that this scarab has been brought in jewellery or as a sign of honor, given for royal courtiers. Its size and fine detail make this a remarkable object.
