The catalogue of the exhibition "Monet Mitchell", presented at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in partnership with the Musée Marmottan Monet, explores the correspondences between the late works of Claude Monet (1914-1926), which anticipate the beginnings of abstraction, and the paintings of Joan Mitchell (1925-1992). An American painter who came out of Abstract Expressionism, Joan Mitchell travelled to France in 1948 and settled in Vétheuil in 1968, a place of inspiration where Monet also lived from 1878 to 1881. The masterpieces and essays in this book highlight the points of convergence between the colour, light, gestures, nature and landscapes of Giverny and Vétheuil, which deeply inspired both artists.
Exhibition at the Fondation Louis Vuitton from 0ctober 5th 2022 to February 27th 2023.
