WRITTEN IN FRENCH
Shaped by her militant activism and her nomadic lifestyle which took her from her native Italy to Russia, the incandescent journey of Tina Modotti (1896-1942) arouses fascination. Mainly produced between 1923 and 1930, his work is striking for its dazzling character, from the art photography of his beginnings to a more personal approach focused on denouncing the living conditions of the underprivileged. It was in post-revolutionary Mexico that both her political awareness and the particular style, both sensitive and critical, were forged, with which she captured social movements and inequalities in person without ever neglecting the quality of photography. Its strong images, sometimes tinged with propaganda, of the precariousness of workers, symbols of the emancipation of the working class, the poverty of urban areas, as well as women and their role within the community, make it the instigator of photojournalism in the country. Combining the analysis of Tina Modotti's work with the historical movements she went through and the study of the distribution of her prints in the illustrated magazines of the time, this work intends to break with the romanticized narrative that certain biographies have conveyed. about her to reveal the pioneering outlook with which this citizen of the world engaged in the struggles of her time is endowed.
