WRITTEN IN FRENCH
For the first time in France, a major exhibition unveils "Whistlerism", an artistic movement contemporary with Impressionism and yet still little studied. Accompanying the exhibition James Abbott McNeill Whistler: The Butterfly Effect held at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen in 2024, this book takes us from Scotland to Poland, from the Normandy coast to the Parisian salons in order to introduce us, thanks to the valuable contributions of great international specialists of Whistler and his epigones, to artists who are sometimes little known in France. And because Whistlerism has endured long after the artist's death, this catalogue questions its legacy even in the American abstract movement of the mid-20th century, while opening up to the fields of poetry, art criticism, photography and cinema.
