"Freedom is never given - from others we only receive permission - it must be conquered, above all found within oneself, maintained like a capricious fire always quick to go out. » Paul Andreu , Doing and redoing , 2021
Engineer and architect, writer and painter, Paul Andreu (1938-2018) is a major figure in the international architectural scene of the second half of the 20th century . Author of the emblematic Terminal 1 of Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle, he is recognized for his decisive contribution to the architecture of airports, as much as for his production in Japan and China, where he was among the first French architects to stand out, with the Osaka Maritime Museum and the Peking Opera, inaugurated in 2007. Between terrestrial anchoring and aerial desire, space and time, light and movement, Paul Andreu has led, throughout his work, essential architectural research on the question of flight, whether physical or poetic.
