Born in 1943 in Montpellier, the artist François Rouan was constantly questioning the nature of painting and delivering its unique design.

Accompanying the personal exhibition dedicated to him by the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon in the summer of 2025, the catalogue questions a prolific work whose monochromes act as revealing the carnal presence of color. The texts of the book study with sensitivity and scholarship the report of François Rouan on otherness, painting and drawing, taking the portrait of a contemporary artist who questions the sensitive history of the world and the imprint that it leaves in each of us.
