Just 70 years ago the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted. The world at that time was marked by the Holocaust and divided by colonialism and bloc logic. This means that these rights were first of all a project to be defended rather than a heritage to be safeguarded. Since then, international conventions have contributed to depoliticising human rights and establishing them as a moral and legal obligation. But even today, this corpus of defence of human dignity is not a matter of course everywhere, especially in authoritarian regimes.
