This book on the Danish Golden Age is an invitation to discover a singular and endearing pictorial current, without equivalent in Europe at the time. More than two hundred works by leading painters - such as Eckersberg, Købke, or Rørbye - illustrate this flourishing artistic period between 1801 and 1864. If their paintings bear witness to the political, economic and cultural identity of Denmark in the 19th century, they are also distinguished by their intimate subjects: family reunions, modest corners of nature, artists in their studios or on their travels?

In the light of research carried out over the last few decades, this original synthesis offers a new insight into the golden age of Danish painting.
