Poussin and love

November 26, 2022 March 5, 2023 Exhibition has ended
The genius of Nicolas Poussin has not yet revealed all its secrets. The artist is still considered the master of the French classical school, the archetypal painter-philosopher. Who knows today that he also devoted himself to the pure pleasure of painting, deploying a most licentious iconography, and that some of his paintings were considered so erotic that they were mutilated, cut up, even destroyed, as early as the 17th century?

Considered from the 17th century as the founder of the French school of painting, Poussin is today famous for his austere paintings, where the rigour of the lines compete with the depth of the subjects.

Through more than fifty works, this book pays tribute to this little-known, even forbidden, Poussin.
