Germaine Richier

Informed by unpublished research, it demonstrates the extent to which Germaine Richier occupies a central position in the history of modern sculpture, as a link between Rodin and the first Caesar. Trained in the tradition of Auguste Rodin and Antoine Bourdelle, Germaine Richier asserted herself as profoundly original and radical in just over 25 years, from the 1930s until her early death in 1959. The exhibition chronologically retraces her artistic trajectory, shedding light on the major themes that nourish her sculptural practice (the human, the animal, myths...). It reveals how Richier revitalized the figure, forging new images of men and women after the war.
