It is the best known and most widespread symbol in Egyptian culture and was also a representation of the divine power of the pharaoh, whose mummy was adorned with it. The amulet was depicted on ships as a talisman, on the sides of sarcophagi to allow the deceased to see the afterlife, or on houses against thieves.
