Facade line

This collection, featuring the logo that harmoniously follows the silhouette of the façade, highlights the architectural drawings of the Grand Palais. They bear witness to the fascinating meticulousness of the restoration work, which required consultation of more than 3,000 original plans and an exact survey of every detail of the building.

An emblematic monument of Paris, the Grand Palais is an architectural masterpiece of exceptional dimensions: over 70,000 m2, overlooked by the largest glass roof in Europe. A collective work designed by several architects, the Grand Palais was built in just 3 years for the 1900 Universal Exhibition and to host major national events.

The restoration and enhancement project, led by François Chatillon (Chatillon Architectes) and the GrandPalaisRmn, was guided by the desire to restore the original volumes, perspectives, luminosity and decor of the Grand Palais during the Belle Époque. This extraordinary project was completed in June 2025 after 4 years of work involving more than 4,000 workers and nearly 60 companies.

François Chatillon is chief architect of historic monuments for the Ministry of Culture, responsible for the restoration and enhancement of the Grand Palais.

Grand Palais Lign ! By Vahram Muratyan

Vahram Muratyan, a cosmopolitan visual artist and art director, became famous for his cult book Paris versus New York and his drawings that speak without words, with just a few lines, pure shapes and intense colours. In 2023 he published Va au Japon (Les Arènes / Komon), a minimalist graphic novel about his life as a dreamer-slacker in the Land of the Rising Sun. Passionate about colourful stories and typographic flights of fancy, Vahram has designed for iconic brands and is creative director of several publishing houses. He was named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in 2017.

Fascinated by the world of urban and architecture, Vahram first designed the glass roof of the Grand Palais in Paris vs New York, comparing it to the ceiling of Grand Central station in Manhattan. To celebrate the end of the restoration work, the GrandPalaisRmn invited the artist to capture the magic of the new Grand Palais, which has regained all its original transparency and luminosity.

Part reverie, part imagination, Vahram's work shows the Grand Palais bathed in morning and evening light. In the centre, the tricolour flag, rich with the emotions of the 2024 Olympic Games, floats like an emblem, of the monument, of Paris and of France, that of a Grand Palais with an exclamation mark!

Cumulo & Réséda Lign

Meet Cumulo, a cloud that lives in the Grand Palais. The Grand Palais is so big that he can enter and leave the Nave as he pleases. Together with his friend the bee, they explore the Grand Palais. But why is the bee called Réséda? It's because she loves to feed on the flowers of the reseda, a plant that gave its name to the green colour of the Grand Palais.

Looking up at the sky and clouds from the Nave of the Grand Palais is quite an experience. To bring this dream to life for young and old alike, the GrandPalaisRmn invited the artist Giselle & Rose to imagine and draw some of the adventures of Cumulo & Réséda in the Grand Palais.

Behind the name Giselle & Roses lies an artist and illustrator for young people, Esther Roussel, a graduate of the Ecole Supérieure d'Art et de Design in Valenciennes, with a passion for children's books and comic strips. She has created a fairytale world populated by birds, clouds and animals that come to life with just a few lines of drawing and expressive, endearing eyes. She regularly works with children's textile brands, while creating her own small stationery editions and a fanzine.

After closing in 2021 for major construction work supervised by architect François Chatillon, the Grand Palais celebrates its opening in June 2025 with a series of exceptional exhibitions.

When will the Grand Palais reopen?

After closing in March 2021 for major restoration work, the Grand Palais will reopen in its entirety on June 20 2025. This reopening will be celebrated by an exceptional exhibition devoted to Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely, in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou, which will run until January 4 2026.

Who built the Grand Palais?

The Grand Palais is a collective work conceived by several renowned architects. Henri Deglane was responsible for designing the nave and galleries, Albert Louvet for the middle section and the Great Staircase, and Albert-Félix-Théophile Thomas for the Palais d'Antin. Charles Girault, also architect of the Petit Palais, coordinated the entire project. This team of architects was selected in a national competition held in 1896, and together they completed this architectural masterpiece in just three years for the 1900 Universal Exhibition.

Who owns the Grand Palais?

The Grand Palais is a State-owned monument under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture. The GrandPalaisRmn is responsible for the complete management of the building, its cultural programme and its facilities, while contributing to the enrichment of the national collections on behalf of the State.
