Head of a Woman Modigliani
Reproduction patinated by hand. Mold made from an imprint of the original work exhibited at the Louvre.
Better known for his painting, Modigliani began his career as a sculptor inspired by the "primitive" arts. This stretched head, with an empty look, is close to the aesthetics of African masks. We find later this hieraticism in his paintings when the hardness of the work and the cost of materials made him abandon the sculpture.
