The earthenware produced in Europe from the 14th to the 19th century faithfully reflects the history of styles and taste.

The multiplicity of production centres and the similarities between the products make their study particularly delicate.
The reasoned publication of the collections of the Museum of Grenoble, with more than 400 pieces well representative of almost all the French and European trends from the 16th to the 19th century, attempts to take stock of our knowledge, taking into account archaeological research in particular.

The second part of the book is devoted to the 20th century, and highlights a group of particularly remarkable works by the ceramist André Metthey and the Asnières school.
