This selection of some one hundred singular and remarkable objects from the 16th to the 21st century highlights the various links between Europe and the rest of the world. Indeed, the unique collections of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden are an excellent demonstration of the role of art in the dialogue between cultures. A strong interest in rare and exotic materials, in everyday or ritual objects from other cultures, or in valuable pieces from distant countries, has formed the basis for collecting activities throughout Europe.
