A cross-disciplinary look at the history of Asian migration in France
This catalogue, which accompanies the exhibition "East & Southeast Asian Immigrations since 1860" designed by the National Museum of the History of Immigration, explores more than one hundred and fifty years of political, social and cultural history by retracing the individual and collective trajectories of East and Southeast Asian migrants and their descendants, to the rhythm of the great contemporary upheavals.
In response to the often monolithic views of these populations, it shows the diversity of their origins and histories, beyond their common experiences. Presenting a wide selection of the works exhibited, nourished by the contributions of history, geography, sociology, anthropology and political science, this book pays particular attention to the questions of the deconstruction of stereotypes, the crossing of perspectives, the recognition of the colonial past and multiple identities, and the transmission between generations.
