WRITTEN IN FRENCH
Delacroix comes to Courbet is a unique exhibition, the result of an exceptional collaboration between the Eugène-Delacroix national museum and the Gustave Courbet departmental museum. Through around sixty works, the tour invites you to explore the career of Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863), from the intimacy of his workshop to his posterity, thus revealing a "private Delacroix" sometimes far from the image that he wanted to construct.
The exhibition is also an opportunity for an unprecedented dialogue, allowing us to question the little-known relationship between the "old lion of romanticism" and the "rough worker" of realism, these two major artists of the 19th century.
This relationship, often defined by respective disdain, due to the incomprehension of one and the categorical and complete nature of the other, turns out to be more complex than it appears.
Exhibition at the musée Gustave Courbet in Ornans from 28 October 2023 to 4th February 2024.
