"I paint what I see, and not what others like to see," said Manet.
This could be the Impressionist manifesto, a movement born in the second half of the nineteenth century, and which was to revolutionize the history of painting forever.
Impressionism was born from the meeting of various artists - Claude Monet, Frédéric Bazille, Berthe Morisot, Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley, Camille Pissarro, and Mary Cassatt - all of whom decided to detach themselves from the overly strict rules set and governed by the Academy.
As early as the 1860s, these artists left their studios to paint in the open air, in order to capture the moment, in an explosion of colour and light.
