WRITTEN IN FRENCH
Paul Eluard was born at the very end of the 19th century. He was part of the Dada movement and then became one of the pillars of French surrealism alongside, among others, André Breton. During the Second World War, he joined the Resistance. His poem Liberty was dropped by English planes in the form of leaflets over occupied France and became famous throughout the world. Between 1916 and 1952, he published more than 100 collections of poetry but it is Liberté which will remain forever associated with him. In this album, Bruno Gibert illustrates with inspiration and finesse 28 poems by Eluard. We find Liberté reproduced in its entirety and Première ("The earth is blue like an orange"), but also lesser known texts. The young reader will thus know a little better the work of this immense poet who was inexorably marked by his experience of war but also by his great love stories.
