The book presents around ten themes linked to sport and fashion in Paris, evoked through archival documents, photographs and pictorial works, and compared with a selection of key pieces from the collections of the Palais Galliera.
Each sporting "activity" is approached from a heritage and historical angle, by resituating the practice of sport in Paris. Places linked to the sportswear trade, department stores, equipment manufacturers or couturiers who worked in this field - like Jean Patou who opened Le Coin du Sport in his Parisian boutique - will also be highlighted. A real journey through time and through Parisian space to understand how Parisians, since the 18th century , have dressed to play sports!
This work is published on the occasion of the 2nd hanging of the exhibition " Fashion on the move #2 " which presents part of the collections of the Palais Galliera, from 26 April 2024 to 5 January 2025.
