The work and its artist

Louis-Emile Durandelle (1839-1917)

Louis-Émile Durandelle is a French photographer born in 1839 and died in 1917. He founded with the photographer Hyacinthe César Delmaet a workshop specialized in architectural photography. He immortalized in particular the construction of the Eiffel Tower, the Paris Opera and the Sacré Coeur. Restorations were frequent in the second half of the 19th century and Durandelle documented some of them, such as the restoration of Mont Saint-Michel by the architect Corroyer.
