Framed Art Prints

The work and its artist

David d'Angers (1788-1856)

Jean Pierre David, known as David d'Angers is a 19th century French sculptor and medallist, he is one of the main representatives of Romanticism. David d'Angers is a renowned sculptor, who honoured prestigious state commissions for the Château de Versailles and the Pantheon, for which he created the current pediment. Like many romantics of his time, David d'Angers endeavoured to represent the appearance and passions of mankind as accurately as possible. As an official artist and winner of the Prix de Rome, David d'Angers enjoyed great success, he was named Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur and taught at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
