FRENCH VERSION
A major artist of the art of the XXth century, Henri Matisse is often celebrated as the painter of color, light and joie de vivre. But this apparent simplicity is the result of a work of extreme rigor, of uninterrupted research, accompanied by a deep reflection on the very function of art.
From his fauve beginnings, marked by the explosion of pure color, to his great decorative compositions, Matisse has never ceased to renew his language. Over the decades, his work evolves into a form of purity, where line and color become the foundation of an art that is intended to be sensual and spiritual. In the 1940's, despite the disease, he began the final chapter of his work: the famous cut papers, real colorful choreographies that transform painting into living space.
