FRENCH VERSION
Throughout his career, Ingres chose to paint the clothes of his models himself, in his history paintings as well as in his portraits. He never delegated this task to his assistants, unlike furniture or decor, often treated by the workshop. Through an exceptional selection of paintings, drawings, costumes, fashion props and period documents, this book highlights the singular attention of the master for the representation of fabrics, drapes and clothing, revealing how fashion shapes the look and the artistic composition. He explores how Ingres sublimates textile material, plays with transparencies, draws inspiration from the trends of his time and dialogues with the history of art to give his portraits a timeless modernity. It also shows the influence of Ingres' painting on fashion designers of the 20th and 21st centuries, such as Castelbajac, Issey Miyake and many others.
