The Grand Palais, in Paris, dedicates a major exhibition to the work of Paul Cezanne (1839-1906), put in dialogue with his prodigious artistic posterity. Published on the occasion of this event, this special edition explores the major influence of the artist on the avant-gardes from the end of the 19th century to the present day, from the first followers of Father Tanguy's shop to the great names of modern abstraction and the contemporary scene. Still lifes, bathers, or views of the Sainte-Victoire mountain, this issue highlights the formal radicalism of its motifs, entered into the collective imagination. Between assumed filiation, ironic diversions and plastic reinventions, it illuminates with a new day the way in which artists, from Matisse and Picasso to Nicolas de Staël or Peter Doig, have made Cezanne one of the undisputed pillars of Western modern art.
