The emperor's house. To serve and magnify Napoleon I.

On May 18, 1804, Napoleon Bonaparte, First Consul, was proclaimed "Emperor of the French". Throughout his reign, the sovereign was splendidly surrounded by a "House" worthy of his imperial title. Dedicated officers and loyal servants organized Napoleon I's public and private life on a daily basis and contributed to the regime's influence. A true political instrument, this "Emperor's House" is responsible for supervising court life, administering the Crown estate and staging power. Portraits, ceremonial clothes and sumptuous art objects invite you to rediscover the Napoleonic adventure from a new angle. The exhibition, which will be held in the Salle de la Belle Cheminée, first invites the public to relive the splendour of the imperial palaces and the court. The second part presents the six Grand Civil Officers of the Crown: the Grand Marshal of the Palace, the Grand Chaplain, the Grand Master of Ceremonies, the Grand Chamberlain, the Grand Squire and the Grand Viper. It also evokes the main figures surrounding the imperial family. The third part presents a selection of masterpieces from the imperial manufacture of Sèvres, diplomatic gifts and gifts offered by the Emperor to his followers. This exceptional collection of nearly 100 works echoes the theme of the Napoleon I museum and allows a new reading of the visit route to the castle, a privileged witness to court life during the First Empire.
