Paris and the Louvre
JR at the Louvre 20 June 2016 Print © Pyramid, architect I. M. Pei, Musée du Louvre, Paris, France
KC011483
This print illustrates the installation on the Pei pyramid at the Louvre in 2016 by street artist JR, a specialist in anamorphosis. It offered the illusion of the glass monument disappearing by installing a photographic representation of the façade that it has concealed since its creation in 1989. This collage is part of the Unframed project that JR has been working on since 2009. He gives a new lease of life to archive images by reintegrating them into their original architectural context, a technique of disrupting habit in public spaces by resurrecting visual memories and monumental views for all to see.
Heliogravure on copper, colour print from inking à la poupée, watercolour highlights.
Unnumbered, unsigned edition.
