The work and its artist

Tiziano Vecellio, called Le Titien (1488-1576)

Tiziano Vecellio, known as Titian was a representative of the Venetian school, and a major painter of the pre-Renaissance Italian period. He was a prolific portraitist who freed painting from the constraints of drawing. He attached particular importance to colour, making it his trademark. His best-known work, the Venus of Urbino, was reinterpreted by many artists such as Manet with his Olympia.
