The Summer Olympic games that will take place in Paris in 2024 are the opportunity, for Monnaie de Paris to celebrate this major international competition through a series celebrating Sport, its values and the athletes. Olympism and Paralympism will be highlighted on those products, struck in France in our art workshops.
In 2023, we are developing a collection of medallions representing the 26 letters of the Alphabet illustrated by 26 Olympic and Paralympic sports.
Para athletics was included in the programme of the first Paralympic Games in Rome in 1960. Wheelchair athletics began in 1952 with a javelin throwing competition for athletes with spinal cord injuries at the Stoke Mandeville Games. It is open to all categories of physical, visual and mental disabilities.
